Saints slip past the Panthers

November 9th, 2009 | by Mark Hooper |

Saints win—it may have been ugly, but a win is a win, especially in today’s NFL/ But as I pointed out in my last entry, this game was not going to be easy. Without Fujita in there, this rushing defense is very suspect. Another 182 yards (last three weeks 137, 161 and 182) and 2 rushing TDs for a total of 7 in the last 3 games is very disturbing. This was the Panthers and their DeAngelo Williams, but he still managed over seven yards a clip. He managed more yards per carry than the Panthers passing offense did per passing attempt. Amazing.

Brees

But we can get back to another one in the “W” Column, and the Saints can now easily claim some serious bragging rights. The only NFC team that could even claim to be in their league right now is the 6-2 Cowboys, and they have enough issues of their own right now. The Colts are the lone other undefeated team, and they barely escaped with a win against the Texans, at home none the less.
So now we head to St Louis and the Rams, who just won their first of the year and are coming off a bye week. They can try all they want, and Steven Jackson will undoubtedly give us fits, but this one doesn’t really scare me. That Rams defense really can’t stop anyone, much less Brees and company.
8-0, wow. First time in history, and the floor is cleared for the next two weeks with the Rams and Buccaneers for what should be a very exciting matchup on Monday night football with the Patriots. Let’s just cross our fingers we don’t stumble on our way there.
