Bush a goner?
December 2nd, 2009 | by Mark Hooper |This will be short and sweet, and if you live in Nawlins’, this news probably hit like a ton of bricks this morning. Surprised? Not me, not really. In later September in these here blogs I posted that I would not be surprised if Bush was gone next year, and I fully expected to start hearing about some trade talk. No news of that actually happening, but now it’s pretty clear the Saints front office absolutely shopped Bush earlier this year and got no takers. Let’s be honest, what team would be willing to take on about $8 mil in salary for a guy that is simply a change-of-pace back? Healthy, he’s probably the best in the game, and right now I’m glad he’s on this roster.
My thought was that the front office knew Bush would not be back next year, and wanted to trade him to get something/anything for him. But Bush started getting healthy, the Saints kept racking up “W”s, and the talk probably fell off. How stupid would the Saints have looked if they had traded Reggie B, then we have a season-ending injury to Pierre? Fans would probably have surrounded the SuperDome with torches and pitchforks.
So, this news was nice for…Texans fans. They have had to listen to how badly they screwed up by passing on Bush and taking Pac Man, oops, I mean Super Mario Williams. Now they can assuredly stomp their feet and point to…..William’s five whole sacks this season. Ok, they both screwed the pooch.
More later, I am still so giddy from the Pats blow-out I can’t think. I’ll recap later this week, and preview the dismantling of the Redskins.
